Financial records event

BACS and ARA Scottish Region are holding a joint event on Financial Records sponsored by CAIS Dundee to introduce members of both organisations to the records of financial institutions. It is on Friday 25th November in Dundee. It will provide a hands-on opportunity to use the records of the Alliance Trust, one of Dundee's prominent Investment Trusts and learn more about using financial records. JCB digs up its own history

The letters JCB are a generally-accepted term for any kind of digger or excavator. It is shorthand for the company (JC Bamford Excavators Ltd), as well as its products. The success of the company and the brand is now being celebrated in a £5m permanent exhibition The Story of JCB.

Go Gay with Gaymer's: BAC Cataloguing Grant 2011

The Business Archives Council is delighted to announce the winning applicant of the BAC cataloguing grant for business archives. The judging panel on behalf of the Council has awarded the grant to Norfolk Record Office for cataloguing of the archives of Gaymers, The Gaymer Group Ltd of Attleborough, Norfolk, cider and related beverage manufacturers.

Book your place at the Business Archive Council's 2011 conference

This year's Business Archives Council conference is Business Archives Sans Frontières, to be held on Thursday 10th November at Unilever House, Blackfriars, London. The aim of the conference is to consider the management of international business archives, both the benefits and difficulties of managing records across the world by the business, but also the issues raised by an external organisation, such as a local record office, university or commercial company, managing such archives, often on a business's behalf. Roche archivist lectures at The National Archives

The wealth of material relating to British history held in the Roche Historical Collection and Archive in Basel, Switzerland was demonstrated in the talk delivered at Kew by its curator, Alexander L Bieri, in February 2011. The UK affiliate of the Swiss pharmaceutical giant was established in 1908 and its early days in London and, subsequently, Welwyn Garden City were vividly described in a presentation illustrated with a rich variety of images.
