Australia to transfer business records to the National Archives of Japan

Records of Japanese enterprises trading in Australia were seized following the outbreak of war in 1941. Now the decision has been taken to send approximately 3,300 boxes of archive material, currently stored by the National Archives of Australia, to Japan. The requisition and retention of these documents has preserved a unique and full record of Japanese business activity in Australia between 1899 and 1941, which might otherwise have been dispersed or lost. In coming months it will become available for consultation in Tokyo. Follow the link for more information.
